This summer has been extraordinarily hot and oppressive.

Much time spent indoors, practicing digital artistry.

There have been many distractions.

Take this pup, for instance.

Really, very sweet.

Always happy.

And smiling. Such a great buddy.

Special thanks to Auntie Christina for the beautiful

photos of our Penny! ;-).

Oddly enough, even with the scorching heat,

beauty prevails. These photos were taken a couple

of weeks ago. The temps were in excess

of 100 degrees, yet crepe myrtles,

periwinkles, and even wisteria vine

presented with abundant blooms.

With Mom's continuing downward spiral with

Alzheimer's, it is at times difficult to focus on the beauty

that each day has to offer.

These unseasonable blooms...

rich, momentous views of thriving beauty,

quietly provide pleasantry.

A reminder to look above, see the beauty,

and appreciate perseverance in

even the most daunting circumstances.

With every visit with Mom,

her beauty shines forth,

and her fleeting smiles

feed the soul.

May you find peace in the beauty that is to behold.

Just happened to find time for

Photoshop play this week.

Subject - roses and iris -

from MIL's garden.

This collage culminated from the original image,

as seen below, and adding various

layers and opacities of other images.

Soft, foggy, scripted overlay.

Addition of cooling turquoise filter, affecting

both image color and background.

Bump up the intensity of the filter

ups the hue and saturation.

A background for other collages

created with overlays and

an uncharted pressing of keys

until I "happened upon" this final product.

These roses and irises have such a divine aroma,

and their beauty is unsurpassed.

Thank you for sharing this journey

in digital design.

Trial and error is the method of learning

that has proven most effective. Though time

consuming, it is by doing

that learning takes place.

Classes? Perhaps so

HaPpY SpRiNG!

It's been a while since posting. Still trying to find the "ZaNy"

day by day. For Mom's best interest and in order to

meet her every need, we have moved her to a

private care facility, with loving, attentive caregivers

and lovely gardens and a miniature pony.

I have had a hard time adjusting to the transition of

the mother/daughter dynamics as affected by this change.

She is still the most wonderful lady in the world without a doubt.

We still love, laugh and share sweet and zany moments.

Just on a smaller scale. And different.

Though our love grows stronger every day.

The image above is my first attempt to delve

back into art with the usual sunny disposition,

which has been absent here and there.

I have begun to dabble in PhotoShop a tad.

Self instruction is slow, but doable.

Testy, but fun!

Trying digital collage will be just the activity to

get back into the swing of things.

With the added bonus of no glue goo!

Fly me to the Moon.

And let me create to my content.

Let me wear a hat.

Or maybe something else like that...

Using collage sheets from

Inka, at Altered Artifacts,

I was challenged to create

with a steampunk style.

It was fun to find an artsy moment.

My caretaking responsibilities have grown

as my mother moves further into

late stage Alzheimer's.

The profound sadness of slowly losing our

angelic matriarch is overwhelming,

and yet we continue to

share blissful moments

of sweetness mixed with many

happy memories of times past.

I have struggled with reawakening my

creative muse as well as whether or not

to reopen my Etsy shoppe.

I have decided to give both a slow go

as I continue to primarily

focus on my own family

and my parents' needs.

I am working in bits of creative time

and still enjoy reading your blogs as

well as exploring new artistic avenues.

Pat Winters has published a

new magazine,

"Crazy Quilt Gatherings",

which is gorgeous and filled

with beautiful handiwork,

tutorials, shopping opportunities,

free images and much more!

crafted by Pat and offered as a

grand prize for a giveaway on her blog.

I am grateful and delighted to have

won this treasure of detailed

stitching, silk ribbon embroidery,

beading, and crazy quilted fabrics.

As for the pixie and ribbon pansies

and orange crazy quilted practice,

they are all bits of crafting

I attempted during the

last few months,

which have been a bit challenging

with caretaking responsibilities,

and surgical recovery.

Blogging and creative ventures

have taken a back seat to

caretaking responsibilities lately,

which are gladly taken on

and at the top of my to do list.

Though, I must add that I do enjoy

visiting you, blogfriends, and the

beautiful inspiration you all offer,

After a couple of days with "cooler", 90 degree weather,

I spent a quick bit of time assembling more of

my treasures to stock the shelves of

my Etsy shoppe.

This sweet cherub on dolphin sits atop

a marble base and carries a

pressed glass bowl for

calling cards, keys, buttons, soap,

or any variety of smaller collections.

My hand painted and glitter swirled pumpkins.

In rich shades of Autumn.

Cinnamon colored glitter on copper.

Olive glitter swirls on olive metallic.

A sweet vintage Hummel style Japan collectible.

A rusty, very vintage, porcelain knob door latch.

I gathered a few goodies from my

trove of treasures,

along with my lil bisque model

and had a little photo shoot for Etsy.

Stunning, gigantic

vintage carved shell buttons.

Pretty blue-green, gilt Spode transferware,

in miniature ~ the cup is just over 2"...

...a few of my own creations...

earrings of pearlescent purple freshwater pearls,

cranberry glass with white core,

and wee Czech plum crystals,

harlequin-shaped freshwater pearls,

awash in purple, gold, and copper.

If only we could don fairy wings and
flit to dreamy destinations.

This past week I was able to fly away

just for a bit with

Cindy and Lisa and my youngest

for a break from the dailies.

No fairy wings needed for this adventure.

Just good, old fashioned fun.

Shopping and dining at

The Antique Company mall,

Smitten, and Patina Green,

in McKinney, Texas.

With artsy friends.

This book was Lisa's discovery,

though she relinquished it to me

to become its proud new owner!

In between the pages

were a couple of

four leaf clovers,

pressed to posterity by Miss Flora.

And this sweet message

from the original gift giver ~

"Presented to Miss Flora Garrison

by her mother

on Christmas 1894".

One of my finds ~ this Art Nouveau jewel box.

It is tiny. Just about ring-sized.

Perfect for fairy treasures.

This plate, or trivet, is

hand painted in the most

beautiful colors, as are the

gilt topped shakers below.

A silvertone cherub

hovers above a cloud of lace.

And a most unusual, foofy, off-white hat,

with plumes of layered velvet "leaves",

is most enchanting.

A vintage hanger from

Disneyland Hotel hints of

joys to be found in a

land of enchantment.

An opalescent, semi-translucent, milky glass shoe.

And more magical images from the

A top hatted gentleman.

A fish wishin' pup.

'Tis splendid to have a

little respite from the dailies.

Today I took a break from the dailies

for a little photo study.

Roses make a perfect subject for color play.

Color.

Details.

Adjust softness.

Add a rose.

Aqua glass and antique lace.

Every now and again,

it can be refreshing to pause and

savor the details when

looking at the whole picture.

Beautiful yardage of embroidered trim,

vintage and violet, perfectly pretty.

Jennifer Stewart's booth was

right next to mine.

She had the most wonderful

vintage shakers filled

with glistening glitter!

Vintage seam binding in

so many colors...

in sharp contrast to the

aged ivory sheet music,

which she also offered.

Another favorite find is this

cabinet card image of a

precious baby sitting upon a

vintage floor sweeper.

The sweetest child's

vintage aqua hanger

and a selection of

crinkly seam binding.

Mendy Texas' blossom swaps

were so much fun and

provided awesome eye candy!

Many talented ladies created

florals of their own design.

The variety of materials used was such a

fun textural, colorful discovery.

Each student of Lisa's was presented with a

set of her lovely handmade treasures.

Delightful to make a cowgirl sing!

Although my Paper Cowgirl retreat

photos are sparse in number

due to camera/operator/lighting error, I

hope that you have enjoyed even a glimpse

What a wonderful weekend!

Paper Cowgirl Art Retreat was so much fun.

The flurry of activity began on Thursday night

with a meet and greet

and the opportunity to swap creations

with other cowgirls.

I joined only one swap, knowing that vacation

and preparing to teach a class

would have to take precedence.

The swap I joined was Mendy's

Blossom Swap #1.

I created brightly colored blooms from

tag stock and inks.

Bandana tied bags contained a flower for each participant.

The bandana tied cigar boxes were created to hold kits for

each of my jewelry class students.

I also created coordinating tags with the cowgirl theme.

Meet and greet was wild and fun!

Ann-Denise Anderson created this cowgirl

outfit completely from crepe paper!

Below, yeh, that's me (with the braces) and Ann-Denise, the

Queen of Crepe Paper!

Many cowgirls graciously allowed me

to take their photos.

Tina Wright, cofounder of Paper Cowgirl, was represented

by her beautiful daughter, Nicole, who kindly

posed before tables filled with bags for 82 cowgirls, a

testament to the success of her mother's and Cindy Mayfield's

dream of Paper Cowgirl Altered Retreat,

which has doubled its size each year since the debut retreat.

We missed Tina dearly and found comfort with the presence of

her husband, Will, and her daughter, who arrived to

represent their beloved and her beautiful artwork.

They have established a memorial scholarship fund in Tina's name.

Friday was spent assisting Cindy with the whirlwind of activity

at Paper Cowgirl.

Friday evening was spent dining with many fellow cowgirls at

The Catfish Plantation!

The dark skies and ensuing storm in Waxahachie

added to the mystery that

surrounds the Victorian style house that is

the restaurant....supposedly haunted, I might add.

Several local shops stayed open late on Friday to

welcome shoppers after dinner.

Saturday, my class took place in the early afternoon.

Shown below with sweet Keely Yowler,

is the amazing and lovely Jennifer Stewart, who

so kindly assisted me in setting up and taking care of details

right before and during my class.

Many thanks, dear friend!

She kindly photographed my class setup.

and helped fluff up laces and display the bundle of bling

that students were to choose from as a

focal for their creations.

After class, setup began for vendor night.

I never wore that cowboy hat, so my mannequin

took on that duty, along with sporting

two of my jeweled creations.

More tags, more fun!

Canvases and shadowboxes.

And a view of half of the setup.

Many of the photos I took just did not turn out well,

so my documentation is very limited.

Deb Taylor was the official photographer for the event

and has created a CD documenting the entire event.

where jars of artistic trinkets fill

light and airy wire shelving units.

Blue CD storage units house

ink pads and accessories.

Ribbons are stored in large pantry jars,

with my "Martha" ribbons

awaiting their own storage solution.

Pine box-style shelving provides

storage for bulkier items.

Books and magazines are everywhere!

Rubber stamps are stored in

acrylic box-style frames

so that they are

stackable and easily accessible.

More books....and a cork inspiration board, which is

"framed" by decorative edge scissors.

Much of my creative space is devoted to

inspirational collections, most of which

are destined to be included in

artistic assemblages.

Glass front cases are one of my favorite

storage/display solutions, primarily for the

sake of dust-free knick-knacks.

Apothecary jars house Czechoslovakian glass buttons,

vintage pearls, vintage laces, threads on wooden spools,

seashells, pocket watches and doll parts.

These collections sit atop an

entertainment center, which is

converted into a jewelry making station.

The main interior cubby holds the

pull out television tray, which

now provides the perfect

jewelry creating surface!

I'll show that at a later date,

as it is in disarray while

I continue creating for

Paper Cowgirl art retreat.

Treasures are blingin'!

I am distracted, and I start thinkin'...

...about tweakin' photos.

What would this one look like "denimized"?

And then I focus again...

Friends are dependin' on me to

come to class prepared to teach.

Some are comin' from far away to the

great ole State of Texas...

to create and share at Paper Cowgirl art retreat.

Which gets me thinkin' again.

Stop "denimizing" photos.

Stop wonderin' what Cowgirls long ago

would have thought about an

altered art retreat.

Stop dreamin' of the past.

Get back to the present.

Paper Cowgirl is only 3 weeks away!

So, blog friends, I am taking a little break to

lasso up more treasures and create new ones.

Yesterday, my daughter surprised me with

these flowers, which are just so colorful!

With Friday's Flowers, hosted by

Alisa, of Life is a Beautiful Place to Be,

so close, I had two reasons to photograph

these beauties ~ one ~ the beauty of the gift and

reason number two being the fun of

photo editing their abundant color!

Photo editing produces some surprising

and artistic images.

One image of intense floral color.

Texturized by overlays.

Hue and saturation tweaked to produce a

vintage effect.

~*~

Friendship ~ a group of likeminded gals

gathering to create for a common cause.

Cindy Mayfield (above left) is the cofounder of

Paper Cowgirl Altered Art Retreat,

and she is carrying on the tradition of this

art event for the first time this year without

her dear friend, Tina Wright, who we lost

just a few months back, and miss terribly.

These two ladies created a wonderful Texas style

retreat, which will carry on this June,

as Tina would have it.

Also photographed above are Jennifer and her mother.

Photo below shows Sandra and our hostess, Ann-Denise.

Ann-Denise offered to host an evening of

creating name badges at her lovely home.

This dear can really throw a party!

Every detail was beautiful!

Fancy beverages.

Chicken salad croissant sandwiches.

Summery salads.

And desserts aplenty!

Even personalized party favors with Ann-Denise's

signature touches of finesse.

A gathering of ladies by a wonderful

hostess and a fabulous cofounder of a retreat that will

surely inspire many to revel in the sharing of the

Today, I join Andrea, of

Vintage Bella Studio

for her

"Show What You Create Blog Party",
and Alisa, of
Life is a Beautiful Place to Be
for
"Friday's Flowers".

This bracelet was the catalyst to teaching jewelry classes

at a local store ~ my challenge was to create a

bracelet from their pattern.

I truly enjoy the smiles of students who have

learned a new skill.

Before jewelry, I dabbled in a multitude of

different crafty media. Crochet pansies

satisfied my urge to learn crochet.

Each of these pansy images sits upon another

artistic endeavor ~ quilting. Not full

sized quilts, though. Just small pillow covers

and doll coverlets, etc.

The fabrics used on this lined pillow cover were

floral images and tiny bees.

I also created clothing items for my girls.

The dress below is itty bitty,

all white, and very simple, yet full skirted.

I also created a dress with little

hand sewn pearl details on lace trim.

I also tried embroidery.

Mr. Bunny was one of my

first embroidery subjects.

This freshwater pearl and sterling silver necklace

was created for my youngest one this week.

A soldered "Faith" charm is for my eldest.

This fabulous St. Joseph lily was planted in my

parents' garden by a lovely friend,

whose faith and sharing are

appreciated and everlasting.

In between the "dailies",

you know,

the things that have to be done,

I try to find time for creating jewels, especially with

Paper Cowgirl

altered art retreat getting closer!

Some of these images depict works in progress,

such as the Czech glass links above.

This aquamarine necklace includes a vintage buckle

and vintage rhinestone dangle.

Aquamarine in the form of

rugged nuggets and polished ovals.

The colorways are delightful!

My light source was not ideal, so the image below

reminds me of a messy Monet painting. Maybe.

Moonstone is also a favorite, and even with my dim

light source, the blue essence within the moonstone

is evident, and magical when paired with aquamarine.

Why so much aquamarine?

Ahhh, aquamarine is resplendent

with the colors of the sea.

Which leads me to the winning name drawn for the

~ Seeing Friday's Flowers ~

After receiving a mixed bouquet of flowers today,

I proceeded to snip, arrange and photograph them.

In so doing, I was amazed at the many angles

of light and shadow that came into play.

As I manipulated the images in Paint Shop,

I pondered the possible interpretations of

perception by the observer.

I believe we all see things differently.

Even the same thing.

For some, there is the absence of eyesight.

For others ~ the absence of color.

Some see color, with

perception dictated by visual acuity.

Interpretation influenced by mood.

By illness.

Through tears.

Through a sea of confusion.

For some, beauty and vision of nature is

explored by sense of touch, smell, hearing, taste,

in addition to...or in lieu of... eyesight.

Wishing you all the wondrous and

beautiful views that nature provides.

Pray tell....is there any color in nature

more enchanting than blue?

Bachelor Buttons,

resplendent in Cornflower Blue,

fluffy as a downy chick,

hold a special place in our cottage garden.

Regardless of proper name or color, many of

my coloring book flowers were shaded with

my treasured Cornflower Blue Crayola.

Victoria Blue Salvia, favored for its

form and beautiful blue spikes,

is a staple in our garden.

African Daisy,

sweetest pink, hint of lavender.

Cheerful Black-Eyed Susans add

wonderful contrasting color.

Heavenly Blue morning glories.

Truly, they are deserving of their name.

Their color is like no other in nature.

Editing and tweaking this photo

created a look reminiscent of

blue transferware.

And Fairy roses.

Enchanting and ethereal.

Abundant with blooms.

Sweetly posed like wee little fairies

briefly pausing to savor the

beauty and soft aroma.

Chintzlike pink in appearance,

tweaked to deep cyanotype blue.

~ Gypsy Fish and Mermaid's Dowry ~

My best intention was to share the following photos

two months ago. However, I did not catalogue the photos

and just happened upon them today, in an unmarked folder!

Sweet Beth, at Gypsy Fish, hosted Silver Sunday

after the holidays, and I was fortunate to win her fabulous

giveway. The treasures came beautifully packaged in her

Gypsy Fish signature style and even included a Scrabble

tile pendant she created with my initial. Beth is

a soldering genius and overall superbly talented gal!

I thoroughly enjoyed Silver Sunday, as it afforded

me the opportunity to stretch my

photographic skills a bit, and to truly

study and appreciate fine details

I enjoyed visiting all of the

Silver Sunday participants to see

the amazing silvery goodness they had to share.

Plus, new friendships were formed along the way!

I have been busily gathering goodies and

creating new jewels for

Cattle Barn flea market

to gather supplies.

And props.

And treasures for class.

~ Beautiful Day ~

Ah, 'tis a beautiful day.

A day of promise and renewal.

Blooms and birds.

The flower and bird images are hand painted by the

very talented Cindy Mayfield, of Yapping Cat Studio.

I am fortunate to own two original paintings by Cindy.

These first few images are of a hand painted bowl.

So much detail and depth of color.

The original painting below,

entitled "Tiny Painting" by Cindy,

is the sweetest bird's nest with eggs.

The flowers in the photograph below are a gift

from my eldest babe. She knows how much

I adore fresh flowers, pruning them and

arranging them in a make do vase.

Then starring them in their own little photo session and

tweaking the images in Paint Shop Pro.

May you all spread your wings, take flight,

enjoy and share this splendid season of renewal.

~ Front Yard Winter ~ Back Yard Spring ~

Today is the first day of Spring, yet

Texas is not ready to surrender Winter's chill.

View from the front yard boasts

Winter clouds, almost imperceptible snowflakes.

Back yard bears the wonders of Spring with

Redbud trees in full violet bloom,

clover sprinkling the emerging lawn, budding trees,

sun rays freely dancing about.

As the sun hides behind the gathering clouds, the

bleakness of Winter lingers, with a

sullen mood, tweaked only by the persistent

colorful emergence of Springtime beauty.

These photos were taken within a two minute time frame.

Spring Reigns!

As I post, the sun has set and the

snowflakes have increased in number.

Tomorrow, Springtime will reveal its glory,

as Texas Winter fades to a memory.

beads which were appealing for

seasonal creations.

Shades of

green and turquoise malachite,

coupled with cut crystal hearts.

Jade in saturated candy hues.

Glass in royal purple,

crystal with aurora borealis coat.

Mother of pearl crosses and peace signs.

Symbolic of the approaching

Easter season.

Symbolic of Promise and Peace.

Shades of Springtime.

Season of Renewal.

Season of Hope.

Season of gratitude and sharing

Gifts so unselfishly

bestowed upon us.

In this class you will learn various

beading basics such as tool use,

opening and closing jump rings,

wire wrapping,

joining chain and findings,

wire loops, clasps.

I will show you how to create a

wire wrapped and bejeweled lace bead.

We will learn how to attach a

vintage rhinestone jewel or buckle

as the focal point of the necklace.

I will provide Swarovski crystal rondelles

and platinum and chocolate brown Swarovski pearls,

Czech glass druk beads, and vintage lace,

sterling oxidized wire,

oxidized silverplate chain, links and findings.

The necklace you create will be classy enough to wear with your dressier attire, yet

have just the right shabby appeal to partner with your favorite jeans and tshirt!

This year's event is in Waxahachie, Texas

June 24-26, 2010.

~ Studio Inspiration ~

Morning light

is shining brightly this morning in my studio.

Seldom do I create by the light of day.

Rather, it is by

moonlight

that my stolen moments

to create are most abundant.

ATC ~ Title: "Party Cloudy, Chance of Rabbits"

And it is evening when my

creative muse is most present.

Visions of castles, crowns, and cake

beckon me - stay awake.

Shelves present tools at the ready.

Shelves also cradle my creations.

And ingredients.

Fairy sightings.

Canvas collections.

But alas,

the tidiness disappears.

And creative chaos ensues.

Actually, this is my best creative environment.

Even my faux floral collection in enamel bucket

inspires with realistic form.

An angel, atop my New Mexico style vignette,

is a gift from my mother, years ago, and watches over

my creative space. Thank you, Mom.

Sigh...

My muse must settle for a bit

while I tend to the dailies,

you know...laundry, "shoveling the floors",

and light cleaning.

And later ~ by light of the

Filigree Moon,

~my creative muse will emerge ~

refreshed, and ready to

InSpIre!

After last week's uncharacteristic

snowfall in North Texas, my parents and I took a

day trip to Weatherford for lunch and to
shop the Farmer's Market.
Rich color was in abundance everywhere,

from the clear blue sky to the

fruits and vegetables on display.

First photo ~ turnips and green grapes.

Really?!?

Please pardon the kaleidoscope view.
Just having a Paint Shop Pro heyday!

Stained glass? Nah...more turnips and grapes.

Next up, chili peppers.

Spicy red.

You reckon this could be red onions in a basket?

Yep!

How 'bout taters in a basket.

Right. New potatoes and Idaho potatoes.

How about a punch of color!

Glorious oranges!

In addition to produce, this

Farmer's Market also carries an

array of

local art and imported ironwork.

As well as a variety of baskets.

Fun colors.

Ooooh, and a bit of Parisienne influence...

Fleur de lis.

Oui!

A trip to Weatherford is always special, as its

courthouse is an architectural wonder to behold.

This image became the most beautiful

lace when tweaked in Paint Shop.

Can you believe that sky?

And now it is sepia-toned courthouse lace.

This vignette of local art

truly makes you aware that you are in

Texas.

So, if you are in the area, saddle up and giddy-up

like a whirlin' dirvish and head to

Weatherford for a colorful day.

Last week's big snowstorm in Texas was

absolutely picturesque for several hours.

Almost unbelievable.

A MaGiCaL pLaYgRoUnD for our

wee furry pals,

Bear and Lily.

Bear is the smaller of the two sisters.

So named because she really

thinks she is a big ol' bear.

She resembles those in my collection.

And speaking of big ol' bears, this polar bear came

to reside here as a result of LaurieAnna's Winter giveaway.

I thought I should share this photo before

blogging focuses on Springtime.

The waning Winter season hints of Spring,

when bears come out of hibernation and

experience the joys of newly budding nature!

Relish the gifts of warmth and shelter.

I have just barely squeezed in a post, as the

weather has been a bit dreary. So, with

Paint Shop Pro, I adjusted my poorly lit photos

until they were somewhat blogworthy.

My subjects ~ sterling puff heart charms.

image awash in lavender hue.
